Project Overview
The Captiva Island Inn project consisted of two separate elevated buildings designed to meet the demanding environmental conditions and stringent hurricane requirements of Florida's Gulf Coast. Constructed in a coastal setting with sandy soil conditions, the project required specialized foundation systems and structural solutions to ensure long-term stability and resilience. To create a secure foundation, deep pilings were driven into the sand to support the structures and transfer loads to more stable bearing materials below. The buildings were then constructed on elevated concrete columns to satisfy FEMA flood elevation requirements and local building codes, providing protection from storm surge and coastal flooding. A significant component of the project involved the construction of an extensive reinforced concrete tie beam system, designed to interconnect the structural elements and provide the strength and rigidity necessary to withstand high wind loads associated with hurricanes. The complexity of the elevated structural system required precise planning, coordination, and execution to ensure both structural integrity and compliance with coastal construction standards. From deep foundations and elevated structural systems to the intricate network of reinforced tie beams, the Captiva Island Inn project demonstrates Cougar Companies' expertise in delivering complex coastal construction projects that demand durability, engineering precision, and resilience against Florida's harshest environmental conditions.
